The origine
of the "Teddy Bear Hotel¡±
came from a story:
Andy is a
local from Mt. Emei. He
studied in school for many
years.After that,
he became a chef. Because of
his good cooking skills,
Andy¡¯s cafe was very popular. Some travelers,
including foreign backpackers,
liked to eat in his cafe. Andy really
wanted to communicate with
them, but he could not speak
English.He began
to learn English by himself
in his spare time.After many
years of practicing, he
could communicate with the
travelers.Then Andy
began to fall in love with
Shirley (now his wife )
and they had a child named
Terry. Shirley,
just like Andy, is very
helpful and dilligent. They love
Terry very much and bought
many toys for him, but Terry
wasn¡¯t always happy.One day,
there was a backpacker who
came from England and got
sick. He was very
weak and all alone.Andy and
Shirley took him to the
hospital and looked after
him very well.The backpacker
was so moved by Andy and
Shirley's kindness that
he wanted to give them a
gift.When he saw
Terry, he had an idea. He gave Terry
a teddy bear and Terry loved
it very much. Over time
more and more travelers
came to eat at Andy's cafe, so Andy
decided to name his caf¨¦
¡°Teddy Bear Cafe¡±, after
the traveler's present for
Terry. |
